Seekers of “gods”

According to Romans 3:11, “There is none who seeks after God.” Not some, but NONE. No human can make this absolute statement, but God can for He “looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God…” (Psa 14,53). His conclusion is that there is none.

This does not mean that people don’t seek after gods, lowercase “g.” It just means that without a New Heart, one can not serve the true and living God. A perfect illustration of this is found in Joshua 24:14-28, “…if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the [gods] which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the [gods] of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Note the contrast between LORD and gods. Those that can’t serve the LORD have plenty of gods to choose from.

“Joshua said to the people, ‘You cannot serve the LORD, for He is a holy God…’” (V.19).
